SUPERCAP® Tissue Preserving Total Hip Arthroplasty

Using Superior Capsulotomy

Key Points

In situ femoral preparation with the femoral head in :

The SUPERCAP® Technique is a tissue-preserving Total Hip Arthroplasty Technique that was designed by Dr. Stephen Murphy who operates from the Center for Computer Assisted and Reconstructive Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital.

The SUPERCAP® approach utilizes a superior capsulotomy technique that allows for implantation of the total hip components under direct vision through a single incision. This approach preserves the posterior hip joint capsule and short external rotators. The most interesting fact related to this approach is that when the technique is performed as designed, the femur is NEVER surgically dislocated during the procedure.
